Ghost Mugs

A ghost is two brushstrokes and a decision. The sheet goes on first, then the eyes — and how far apart they sit is the whole difference between a ghost that looks startled and one that looks smug. We have never managed to repeat the same face twice, and we stopped trying.

What Makes These Different

A printed ghost mug is a transfer stuck onto a blank cup. These are not that. Each ghost is painted freehand under the glaze before firing, which is why the eyes sit a little differently on every mug and the design will never wash off.

Everyday Use

Stoneware ceramic, dishwasher and microwave safe, roughly 300–350 ml (10–12 oz) unless a listing says otherwise — a couple of the designs are larger 20 oz mugs. Check the individual product page for exact capacity, since hand-thrown pieces vary slightly.

Ghost Mug FAQ

Is the ghost painted or printed?

Painted, by hand, before glazing and firing. The design sits under the glaze, so it will not fade, peel or wash off.

Will mine look exactly like the photo?

Very close, but not identical. Brushwork, glaze pooling and tone shift slightly from one firing to the next. On a ghost that usually means the expression is a little different — which most people end up liking more than the photo.

Can I use it every day, or is it just for October?

Every day. They are food-safe stoneware, dishwasher and microwave safe, and a plain white ghost on a pastel glaze does not read as seasonal the way a jack-o'-lantern does. Plenty of customers keep theirs out all year.

Do these sell out before Halloween?

Some do. We make Halloween designs in small batches, and once a design is gone for the year we do not restock it mid-season — there is only so much a small atelier can fire between September and October.
