Custom ceramic house number sign hand painted with red cherries and green leaves, mounted beside a front door

Custom Ceramic Address Plaques: A Guide to Hand-Painted House Signs

The first thing a guest sees isn't your front door — it's what's next to it. A house number stamped in generic metal or vinyl does the job and disappears. A hand-painted ceramic address plaque does the same job and becomes part of how people remember arriving at your home.

At CeraBien, our custom ceramic house number sign is hand-painted in our atelier in Çanakkale, Türkiye, piece by piece — which is why no two plaques, even with the same design, come out quite identical.

Three Styles to Choose From

All three of these are live in our shop right now and ship as made-to-order, personalized pieces.

What Makes a Hand-Painted Address Plaque Different

Cast metal and laser-cut signs are precise and permanent, but they're also identical to thousands of others. A hand-painted ceramic plaque is decorated with a brush, glazed, and kiln-fired, so the botanical border, the lettering, and the glaze itself carry small, natural variations — the same quality that makes it read as a detail someone chose, not a hardware-store fixture.

The cherry design is painted in a cream, red, green, and soft pink palette; the lemon design leans into a brighter yellow-and-green Mediterranean palette — both finished with the same glossy glaze and suited to cottagecore, farmhouse, rustic, botanical, and Italian-inspired entryways. The minimalist door number takes the opposite approach — clean lettering on a simple glazed ground — for a more modern or Scandinavian-style entrance.

Choosing Your Ceramic Address Plaque

Size

Both the cherry and lemon house numbers come in six matching sizes, from a compact 17 × 15 cm ($89) up to a statement 30 × 28 cm ($198.50). The minimalist door number runs smaller overall, from 10 × 10 cm ($69) up to 20 × 20 cm ($139). A smaller size reads well beside a narrow door frame or on a mailbox post; the larger sizes hold their own on a wide porch wall or garden gate where they're seen from further away.

Personalization

Every plaque is made to order: you can personalize it with your house number, family name, street name, or a short custom line of text. That's also what makes it a specific kind of gift — a housewarming or new-home gift with the recipient's actual address on it isn't something they can buy for themselves on a whim.

Where It Fits Best

  • Front door or porch wall, right at eye level as guests approach.
  • Garden gate or entrance wall, for homes with a path leading up to the door.
  • Mailbox post or pillar, sized down to the smaller end of the range.
  • Covered patio or cottage entryway, anywhere the piece is sheltered from direct, constant weather exposure.

Because it's a handmade, glazed ceramic piece rather than an all-weather industrial sign, it holds up best long-term in a sheltered spot — a covered porch or recessed entry rather than a wall with no overhang at all.

A Housewarming Gift With Their Actual Address on It

Most housewarming gifts are generic by necessity — a candle, a bottle of wine, something that works for any home. A ceramic address plaque personalized with the new owner's street name and house number is the opposite: it only works for the home it was made for, which is exactly what makes it memorable. It's also a natural fit for new-home gifts and even wedding gifts, when a couple is combining names and moving into a first home together.

Ordering Yours

Each plaque is hand painted to order, so plan for production time beyond a standard in-stock item, especially around the housewarming-heavy spring and early-fall moving seasons.
