What Makes These Different

A box of shop-bought ornaments is identical to every other box on the shelf that year. These are cut from a rolled slab and painted one at a time, so the bells in a set are siblings rather than copies — and the set you hang this year is not one anyone else has. Ceramic also survives the attic better than glass: it does not craze in the cold and it does not go brittle.

Hanging

Each piece has a hole formed before firing and comes ready to hang with a loop of cord. They are light enough for a real tree's outer branches, and sturdy enough to come back out next December.

Are these painted or printed?

Painted by hand before glazing and firing, so the design sits under the glaze and cannot scratch or fade with storage.

Will the pieces in a set match each other?

They are made as a set and share a palette, but each one is painted individually — so they read as a family rather than as nine copies. Most people find that is the point.

How do I store them between years?

Wrap each piece in tissue or newspaper and keep them in a rigid box. Ceramic handles cold storage well; what it does not like is knocking against itself in a loose bag.

Can they go outdoors?

On a covered porch, yes. We would not leave them out through a freeze-thaw cycle in the rain — water that gets into an unglazed edge and freezes will crack any ceramic.

Are they a good small gift?

They are one of the few things at this price that still feel handmade, which makes them work for Secret Santa, a teacher, a neighbour, or as the thing tied onto the outside of a larger present.
