Why Ceramic on a Wall
Metal sconces conduct heat into the fixing and can discolour the wall above them over time. Fired clay does neither — the body absorbs the heat and the glaze wipes clean of soot. It is also heavier than it looks, which is why the fixing matters more than the candle does.
Wall Candle Holder FAQ
How do they mount?
Each piece has a hole formed in the clay before firing, sized for a standard wall screw or hook. On plasterboard use a wall plug — the ceramic body has real weight to it. No bracket or hardware is included, because what you need depends on your wall.
What candle fits?
Standard tealights. Do not use a taper or pillar candle in a wall holder — the flame sits too close to the wall surface.
How far from the wall does the flame sit?
Far enough for a tealight, which burns low and contained. Even so, keep them off walls with wallpaper or fabric hangings, and never leave one burning unattended.
Will the wall above get marked?
A tealight burning cleanly leaves very little. If you burn several over months in the same spot, wipe the wall occasionally — the same as you would above any candle.
Can they be used unlit?
Most people do, most of the time. They are pierced and painted to be looked at in daylight; the candle is the evening version of the same object.
