Each handmade animal mug is shaped, glazed and painted individually in our studio, then kiln-fired. Watercolour technique on clay is unforgiving — the glaze moves as it fires — which is why every whale ends up slightly different from the last.

Why belugas suit soft colour

A beluga is nearly white, so the drama has to come from the water around it. Layered blue washes let the whale emerge from the background rather than sit on top of it — the effect you can't get from a printed whale coffee mug.
