Unique paper towel holders, hand-painted one piece at a time. These are the designs in our workshop that don't fit a theme — a gothic silhouette, a forest scene, a city sketch, a camel crossing a desert sunset. Each is a decorative ceramic object first and a paper towel stand second, and because the brushwork is done freehand, no two are alike.

Why Each One Is Different

A mass-market paper towel stand is a chrome rod and a weighted disc, made a thousand at a time. Every holder here is shaped by hand, painted freehand, glazed and kiln-fired on its own. The line weight, the glaze pooling, the exact tone of a colour — none of it repeats. That is what makes this a genuinely one-of-a-kind piece rather than a product with a decorative finish applied to it.

Designs You Won't See Twice

• Gothic — dark, graphic and slightly theatrical, for a kitchen that isn't trying to be neutral

Decorative, But Made to Be Used

A designer paper towel holder is only worth the counter space if it works. Every piece has a stable freestanding base and an open vertical slot, so you can tear a sheet one-handed without the holder lifting or sliding. Sizes run roughly 5" to 8" in diameter to fit standard paper towel and kitchen rolls — check each listing for exact measurements.

Will mine look exactly like the photo?

Very close, but not identical, and that is the point. Each holder is painted by hand, so brushstrokes, glaze pooling and tone shift slightly from one to the next. What makes these different from a decorative holder in a homeware shop?

Most decorative paper towel holders are a standard form with a printed or transferred pattern, produced in runs of thousands. These are made in a small workshop, thrown or hand-built, then painted freehand by the person who made them. The result is closer to a small ceramic sculpture that happens to hold a roll.

Are they dishwasher safe?

The all-ceramic pieces are. Wood-base models should be cleaned by hand — wipe the ceramic with a damp cloth and mild soap, and keep the wooden base dry so it doesn't warp. Avoid abrasive scourers and bleach on either type; they dull the glaze over time.

Can you make one to order?
